Why I enjoy working at the SBHC
I enjoy working at the Sandy SBHC because it gives me the opportunity to help students become informed and responsible for their healthcare. I find their engagement and willingness to make healthy lifestyle choices inspiring. Their enthusiasm and energy is contagious, and I learn something new every day. I feel very honored to work and live in this community.
Hobbies
I have always lived in the mountains, and I always will. Along with my husband and two young boys, we find a way to stay actively outdoors on Mt. Hood throughout all four seasons. We enjoy camping, hiking, downhill skiing, and anything that involves sunshine. I also play the cello, enjoy reading, spending time with friends and family, and traveling.
My advice for happy & healthy life
My advice for a happy and healthy life is to live life to the fullest. When the opportunity arises, take the fork in the road, and laugh often.
Fun Fact: I did an internship with NASA in Houston, TX during my last year of nursing school. -

Education
I have a Bachelor’s Degree from Smith College (in Northampton, Massachusetts) where I graduated Cum Laude with a major in Spanish Language and Literature, and a minor in Latin American Studies. I completed a Graduate Certificate in Transpersonal Psychology from Sofia University (formerly the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology). I received a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Walden University, where I studied my courses online while living in Montreal, PQ, Canada, and then completed all of my clinical hours in Portland, Oregon. Why I enjoy working at the SBHC
I love that any student can come see me for free, regardless of insurance or financial status, and that we even cover their copays for private insurance! It feels different to work in a school-based clinic than in a typical outpatient clinic, as when I meet with students their daily concerns about relationships, school, and home are fresh on their mind. It’s also great to be able to refer them to a Nurse Practitioner in the same office and work together to coordinate treatment of both physical and mental health. And, I just really love working with kids and teens.Hobbies
In my free time, I love being outdoors either working or hiking, walking, running, etc. I also enjoy spending time with family and friends, making pottery, doing Yoga, playing guitar, and playing Capoeira (this I do less of now that I’ve been living in Sandy over the past few years, as my teacher is in Portland, but it’s lots of fun).My advice for a happy & healthy life
Life is hard. I’m just going to say that. To make it happier, I think we need to remember to do things that make us smile and be kind to ourselves. Try to have the courage to go after your dreams, even when they may not seem so possible… As someone close to me likes to remind me all the time, Love is greater than fear to make life healthier, listen to yourself on every level possible: from what your body wants to eat, to whether or not to watch more TV or get up and move around, to saying hello to someone who catches your interest for no particular reason and avoiding someone else who just gives you a bad feeling (though later maybe figure out why this is- we do have some biases that will serve us to learn about). And, when you can, nurture all parts of yourself: body, mind, and “being” (in whatever way you may interpret that, be it religion, spirituality, or just yourself). Oh, and one more thing… If you think you have a problem or challenge, admitting it is not weak, it is the best thing you can do to start to make a change. If you want to talk about it, I’m here to help. -

One piece of advice for happy & healthy life – If you go out looking for friends, you’re going to find they are very scarce. If you go out to be a friend, you’ll find them everywhere. Friendships: Enrich your life and improve your health.
